B11 Old Settlement Mountains

This region is a mountainous highland, the northeastern slope of the ancient supervolcano which characterizes the continent. Broadly, the steep slopes of the caldera get lower as you travel northeast.

These ridges are too high to get water from higher up, and are in the rain shadow of the supervolcano, leaving this area more parched than most of the mountainous first rank. The creeks which run from these hills slough through ancient cities, and dislodge metal and plastic scrap from the compacted layers of rebar and cement geology. These cities were known as the Tangentopoli (singular Tangetopolus), and their people the tangentopoloi. 

Around 800YL, a medusan disease ended those city-states, turning much of the population to stone, as merely glimpsing a contagious person could spread the stoneplague to you too.

Shattered ecosystems here are in the decades-long project of repair, and the collectives that form around each pool-community have settlers of all types, from ambient, short lived species, to sacred, mystical spirit-insects (112-1) , to sentient ravines and god-hills. The forest planning process can get quite political, as interested parties try to find a stable vision to rally around, and a leader they trust to bring it forward.

There are six encounter tables for the Old Settlements, covering:

• 3 Geology
• 4 Rituals
• 5 Rumors
• 6 Titansign

The first three tables provide detailed notes about each area’s plants, animals, and physical material. The denizens of those places provide their own voices and actions in the Rumors and Rituals tables. The Titansign tables provides a one-in-six chance of encountering some of the enormous, supernatural god-creatures which live in each region.
