Masters of the Moonforge's Light
A downloadable sapphic lunar hexcrawl
The Pale Green Moon hangs above you now. This is new!
She’s a traveller, our Pale Green Moon, and she’s not in every night sky. She wanders the starfield by her own strange musings, low and close like a sweet hand on a lover’s cheek.
It is so close that each night it sits atop a Moonkissed Hex, a subregion directly below it, and close.
When it passes over the world’s mountains, one worries that they might drag their rocky fingers across the glittering white crater-fields. When the moon is over a large body of water, fish fly, prophecies ignite, and strange dreams often come true.
This module started as a four-page booklet. Where Outel’s Edge Was Forged was an entry in the second Appendix N Game Jam (2026), a competition to create role playing game stories based on assigned, fictitious pulp sci-fi and fantasy titles.
The science fiction and fantasy I read in my own childhood was extremely male and presumptively colonial. I figured if we were doing an Appendix N from scratch, I might invent a queer text I would have loved to have read, something which would have broadened my thinking earlier than it actually was broadened. Outel's Edge, then, would have been a hard-to-classify novella from the 1930s, in the style of Lovecraft's Dreamquest cycle, but written by a woman about fantastical women falling in love.
This work expands upon those pages with the detail and granularity to make the Pale Green Moon come alive at the table. From the terrestrial areas bound up with the luminary to the profoundly desolate and dreamlike lunar surface, Masters of the Moonforge’s Light seeks to provide a structured mission across existing terrestrial regions, various methods of moon travel, and, for the bulk of the text, detailed areas, ecologies, and histories of the Pale Green Moon the Devil Industries which were built on it, and the people who made those places hum with life.
There are so many new stories to tell in the long shadow of Outel & Rillana’s beautiful love.
Masters of the Moonforge's Light is...
